Three Turns and Saint Anthony Cambrils
Three Turns and Saint Anthony Cambrils-Tres Tombs i Festes de Sant Antoni a Cambrils
Festival Date: 18-01-2015
It was only a couple of centuries back when we used carriages and stagecoaches as modes of transport, and the same types of changes apply when it comes to working the land. However the good news is that the appreciation of our beasts of burden, has not been forgotten here and this festival is all about the animals being blessed.
In fact it preserves, in a way, nostalgic traditions, and these days, in the towns and villages that this takes place, horses, mules, Shetland ponies, goats and even domestic animals are part of this festival. The Tres Tombs part means Three Turns, and this is because of the tradition of the animals being taken on the route three times.
In Cambrils it is organised by the Agricultural Society Co-op, with the collaboration of the (City Hall) Ajuntament de Cambrils. During the Festival of Sant Antoni/San Antonio, there is breakfast for the people, eating contests, concerts, dances and other competitions like chess, gymkana, tractor. The ancient tradition in honour of our animals has continued despite the big change in times, termed “progress” by many!
