Benicarlo Artichoke Festival

Benicarlo Artichoke Festival

Benicarlo Artichoke Festival – 3rd week January for a week or so

Festival Date: 20-01-2016

If you haven’t been to the area of Benicarlo, it’s hard to imagine how many fields have artichokes growing in them, and when in bloom, I love the contrast of the plants’ green stems and lush purple flowers. Basically Benicarlo is to artichokes what certain area of France, Spain etc are to wine ….

The artichokes from there are actually products of Designation of Origin, and the festival to celebrate the artichokes is held around the 20th January or so, sometimes around the third week. There are tastings of various popular dishes that use artichokes, plus in the restaurants, there are a variety of special menus available to celebrate these Gastronomic Days of the Artichoke.

Benicarlo has its own marina and some interesting parts to the town. The entrance to the town is not that attractive, but don’t let that worry you, as it is a normal working seaside town wiht some attractive parts. Check it out in our Benicarlo Spain travel guide.
