Trobada d’Armats de les Comarques Barcelonines a Martorelles

Armed Encounter in the province of Barcelona Martorelles – Trobada d’Armats de les Comarques Barcelonines a Martorelles Easter Week

This is a parade of the legions of the Armats, which is really spectacular. Armats represent Roman soldiers. It takes place in Martorelles, with Armats from Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Mataró, Manresa, l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Centúria Romana, Estaferms, Badalona and of course the Matorelles Armats participating. The parade goes through the streets of Martorelles and then an individual from each group delivers a ribbon to commemorate the event.

The term Armats describes men who are dressed up as Roman soldiers marching out at Easter, and this name is common in both Catalonia and the Valencian Community. In the Girona, which is also in Catalonia, the term used is Manaies.  The choreography and the whole event is very elaborate. You can recognise the captain, who is called Manaies as he can be distinguished from the others by the clothes he wears. There is drumming and the touching of spears on the ground.
