Tarraco Viva Tarragona
Festival Date: 07-05-2015
In 2015 the dates for Tarraco Viva are from the 7th to 17th May. Can I just say one word – stunning!! Experience the Roman civilisation up close and personal from the 5th to the 25th May in 2014. In case you don’t know, Tarraco is the name of the Roman City where Tarragona is today, and there you can see lots of remains, including an amphitheatre right by the sea.
Tarraco Viva came about in order to raise the awareness of the history and culture of ancient Rome, which still needs continuing work. I only say this because there are just a handful of people that I know who are aware of the city’s amazing heritage.
During Tarraco Viva, there are workshops, conferences and re-enactments of what daily life was like in this era. Also on offer are gladiatorial fights, period soldiers, music, theatre and some fine food on offer.
Did you know that the Roman City of Tarraco in Tarragona is a UNESCO Heritage Site – you can find out that and other UNESCO sites of Catalonia by clicking on UNESCO Heritage in Catalonia

A New York Times critic, Florence Fabricant, said this about Tarragona: “We left Tarragona feeling as though we had been let in on a wonderful secret that told not only of the reach of ancient Rome, but of other historic periods, layered within and around the city. And that the secret was meant to be shared.”
