Benicarlo Fallas and Fiesta of St. Joseph

Benicarlo Fallas and Fiesta of St. Joseph

Festival Date: 10-03-2016

Las Fallas have been celebrated in Benicarlo since 1973, and since then have grown in importance and popularity. In Benicarlo th Fallas take place in the run up to the Feast of St. Joseph, and it is the same tradition as in Valencia, and Burriana.

Amazing large figures are created from papier maché, although these days other materials may be used also. There is a winner for the best figure, and then the big ritual is that all of the others are burnt! It is a strange spectacle, as so much work has gone into them and they are often striking and creative.

Expect fireworks, rockets, dinners in the street ….everyone is welcome!

Benicarlo has its own marina and some interesting parts to the town. The entrance to the town is not that attractive, but don’t let that worry you, as it is a normal working seaside town wiht some attractive parts. Check it out in our Benicarlo Spain travel guide.
